本片通过亨利一家在二次大战中的不同经历反映了二战中的方方面面，即有波澜壮阔的战争场面、又有剪不断理还乱的儿女情长。书中人物众多，上至各交战国最高领导人罗斯福，丘吉尔，希特勒等，下至一般士兵和普通百姓。所述故事从1939年德军入侵波兰，第二次世界大战爆发开始，到1945年日本投降，战争结束为止，涉及大多数主要战场和重要事件。作品中涉及的战史，都是真实的，所引的数字材料，都是可靠的，举凡显赫人物的言语行事，也都是出自正史，凡此种种，加上作者感人至深的文学手法，铸成了这部"史诗风范的长篇小说”。当然，爱情、亲情、友情绝对是这部佳作中永远也不会缺少的主题。
两部小说都先后在80年代被搬上电视屏幕，而且相当成功。电视剧把小说的人物和故事背景形象化的搬上了荧屏，真实再现了原着的宏大的战争场景和复杂的人物关系以及真实的情感。本剧演员阵容非常强大。已故美国性格巨星罗伯特米切姆扮演维克多亨利，在两部电视剧中他扮演了同一个角色。其他明星还有沙朗斯通、约翰吉尔古德爵士、简西摩尔等。《战争与回忆》的开始紧接着《战争风云》，里面涉及到太平洋战场、欧洲战场、对犹太人的大屠杀等历史事件...

Twice a month, Mrs. Bixby travels to Baltimore to visit an elderly aunt, her only living relative. Or so she tells her dentist husband. In fact, she visits the Colonel, her rich lover. Before returning home, he gives her a gift of a fur coat - along with a letter saying that they won't be seeing other any more. Mrs. Bixby decides to pawn the coat but her elaborate scheme to explain the coat to her husband doesn't quite go as planned.
Professor Jarvis is, as one student describes him, the most henpecked man in the world. When he catches Perry Hatch cheating on an exam, he informs him that he will not be reported to the university but rather to his father who, Prof. Jarivs hopes, will mete out appropriate punishment. Hatch is none too pleased and when he hears that Jarvis's wife has been gone for several weeks, starts to wonder if Jarvis may have gotten rid of her. He and a friend spy on him and find him throwing away some of his wife's belongings. They take their case to the police who decide to question him.
