《信任》讲述的是真实的富豪家族故事，主角是John Paul Getty III，Getty石油公司的（前）继承人；于1973年时，John Paul Getty III在罗马遭到绑架，当时黑手党绑匪向他的家族勒索赎金（根据资料是1700万美元）。然而他在绑匪手上时，这对他成了一种恶梦，因为当时仿佛没有人想救他回来似的。
